ACL & Meniscus Tears

ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) tears are especially common in athletes where abrupt stopping and quick turns are common. Think of a wide receiver quickly changing direction to avoid a tackle, this is the perfect recipe to tear the ACL.

Additionally, a torn meniscus is another common knee injury. Any activity that causes you to forcefully twist or rotate your knee, especially when putting your full weight on it, can lead to a torn meniscus. You know how you shift all of your weight to your left leg while squatting and turning to sit in the driver’s seat of the car? Every time you do this, you are creating the perfect storm to tear one or both mensci. If you happen to hear a pop and feel a sharp pain while doing so, you may have strained or torn your meniscus. But don’t worry! We are hear to help.

PRO TIP:
Now, that I’ve scared the beaus out of you thinking your next car ride will cost you a meniscus, try these subtle changes. When entering the driver side of the car, either turn towards the door and sit down first, then lift you legs into the car (if you are already weakened or aware of balance issues) OR step into the car with your right foot, sit, then l lift your left leg into the car and readjust to a comfortable sitting position.
